The Oasis was established in 1997 under an agreement between LIPU, the Municipality of Cesano Maderno and Parco delle Groane, within which it is located.
It is managed by LIPU - Birdlife Italia, through qualified staff and a large group of volunteers.
The Oasis covers about 100 hectares of woods, heaths and wetlands, set in a highly urbanized and industrialized context.
The area, because of its particular location within the Groane Park, includes valuable corners of residual nature (such as oak and birch groves) and degraded areas, which have been the subject of improvement works.
In fact, since 1998, the area has been the subject of many environmental rehabilitation works, including the creation of a large 12-hectare wetland in a former clay pit. In this area there are now several bodies of water, canals, flooded meadows and an extensive reedbed, which encourage the establishment of wildlife that can be observed by all visitors, thanks to the creation of special huts and about 4.5 km. of equipped trails.
Other construction sites included: the burying of power lines that are dangerous to birdlife, the rehabilitation of a creek, various naturalistic engineering works, some planting and the establishment and management of wild meadows.
In addition, the Oasis also includes: the Alex Langer Environmental Education Center, an area of recreated micro habitats, parking, and a special area to receive the many visitors and school groups.
