Brugherio, Carugate, Cernusco sul Naviglio, Cologno Monzese, Vimodrone: these are the municipalities that give birth to the 19th Local Park of supra-municipal interest of the Province of Milan, the Parco Est delle Cave. 800 hectares in total of considerable importance especially because they contribute to maintaining a local ecological corridor in function of landscape redevelopment and to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.
The park allows for the protection of residual open spaces in a heavily infrastructured area, the preservation of historical assets related to rural tradition and the protection of the agricultural heritage. In addition to areas still used for agriculture, there is the presence of some quarries, one of which, the one in the Increa Park, has been recovered for recreational purposes. There are 6 ponds distributed in the park, which are home to turtles, frogs and toads, fish typical of the Martesana and birds such as herons, egrets and kingfishers.
