The shrine stands on the street of the same name, Via della Misericordia, at the exact point where the municipalities of Vedano al Lambro, Biassono and Lissone intersect. The original little church, dated around the second half of the 15th century, was declared a shrine following a Marian apparition, which occurred during the period of the Manzonian plague. During that contagion, the inhabitants of Vedano moved away from their homes in search of less dangerous areas, and when they reached the place where the church stands today, Our Lady appeared there, reassuring them and inviting them to return to their homes, saying that the plague would cease, which indeed it did.
And it is precisely to that plague that the fresco in the presbyteral basin refers, created by the painter Luigi Tagliaferri:On a background appears the Madonna seated on a cloud mound with the Blessing Child Jesus on her lap, on the sides groups of the faithful invoke the Virgin's protection.
The devotion to this shrine increased during the two world wars and is still very much alive today.
The church is one of the stops on the Saint Augustine's Way.
