Housed in a prestigious venue, brilliantly obtained by renovating a period building, the Museum is characterized by a relationship of continuous alternation between interior and exterior space.
The building, inaugurated in the year 2000, collects works by the most accredited contemporary painters, acquired during the golden years of the Lissone Prize, an event that made the city, in the years immediately after the war, a fulcrum of the Italian art movement. In fact, the Prize was able to catalyze the attentions of art critics and operators, representing together with the Settimane Lissonesi an element of pride for the entire community.
It includes works by the most accredited contemporary painters from France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Holland, Switzerland, Spain England, Japan, Denmark, Yugoslavia, etc, as well as names of great Italian artists such as Birolli, Morlotti, Moreni, Vedova, Francese, Dorazio, Scanavino, Romiti, Vaglieri, Adami, Schifano and other great masters of painting.
A section is dedicated to the life and work of Gino Meloni, the great Lissone master who died in 1989.
The City promotes the new Lissone Prize, which recovers and revives the tradition of the historic Prize that had international attendance and resonance in the years from 1946 to 1967.
Today, the new venue is characterized by continuous high-level proposals, among which the exhibition "Le Corbusier painter, sculptor, designer" (2003) and the anthological exhibition dedicated to Antoni Tapies (2005) should be noted.
The activity aimed at school children, for whom numerous educational courses are designed and organized annually.
