Vela Chapel

La Cappella Vela, of particular architectonical, historical and artistic interest is the oldest building of Villa Borromeo d'Adda. The building was commissioned in 1849/50 to the architect Balzaretto and the sculptors Ticino Vincenzo and Lorenzo Vela by the Marquis Giovanni d'Adda, following the untimely death of his wife Maria Isimbardi.

The space was created on the model of the small church of San Satiro in Milan featuring an octagonal structure with neo-Renaissance style. Enriching the building: the sculptural decoration representing Our Lady of Sorrows and the tomb of the young dead.
