From April 13 to July 28, 2024, the Orangerie, Reggia di Monza and the Musei Civici di Monza are hosting the exhibition 800 Lombardo. Rebellion and Conformism, from Hayez to Previati, which offers a journey through the painting and, more generally, the culture of 19th-century Lombardy, through nearly one hundred works, including paintings and drawings by the main protagonists of 19th-century Lombardy: from Hayez to Piccio, Faruffini to Cremona, Medardo Rosso to Previati and Segantini.
The exhibition itinerary, organized by thematic areas, analyzes both the movements and iconographic trends, as well as the biography and personalities of the individual artists, offering visitors the opportunity to discover a dynamic and surprising universe, artistically and intellectually highly refined and experimental, and to investigate the society of the time by following a narrative thread that aims to shed light on a subject that is not always so well known, such as the Lombard art scene of the 19th century.
The exhibition, while keeping the Milanese milieu-particularly the magisterium of the Brera Academy-as its focus, also investigates the situation in the other Lombard provinces. The Exhibition Hall of the Civic Museums of Monza will host a section devoted to the art scene in the city of Monza, the birthplace of such extraordinary painters as Pompeo Mariani, Mosé Bianchi, Eugenio Spreafico and Emilio Borsa.
The exhibition is curated by Simona Bartolena, produced and produced by ViDi cultural, in collaboration with the Consorzio Villa Reale e Parco di Monza and the Municipality of Monza, with the contribution of BPER Banca, travel partner Trenord.
Admission fee included in the museum ticket.
