Why we celebrate March 8
On December 16, 1977, the United Nations General Assembly proposed that each country declare one day a year as "United Nations Day for Women's Rights and International Peace"
So March 8 became the official date. The day commemorates both the social and political achievements of women, and the discrimination and violence they have suffered and continue to suffer.
